What type of saw is best for cutting wood, plastic, etc.?
Is it a hacksaw, one of those Christmas tree cutting saws, etc.?

Go to Home Depot and get a “tool box saw” They’re rather short and have very sharp teeth. They will cut anything but metal. Cost about $ 15.00

A hacksaw (coarse blade) could be used on plastic, but not wood. A carpenters’ saw would be used on wood.

Power saws are always the most efficient, but of course it depends on what type of cuts you are doing. Are you ripping (cutting length ways) wood/plastic or are you crosscutting (cutting perpendicular to the grain)? The other item you need to consider is how big/small is the material that you are wanting to cut? I would recommend a circular saw and/or a jigsaw for most simple cuts that don’t have to be very accurate. If you need the cuts to be accurate, I recommend a table saw and/or a miter (compound for two angles at the same time) saw. Having said this, all you need to do now is use the right type of saw blades for the material that you are cutting.
NOTE: Power saws are dangerous, especially table saws. BE VERY CAREFUL!! They take off fingers faster than you can blink…
