can you use a dado blade in any table saw?
i have a cheepy skil table saw and i need to make some half lap cuts i wana know if u can use a dado blade in it

Suggestion by Shell Back
Sure you just can’t go wider than the opening on the table of the saw, and don’t try to go at angles with it.

Yes you can use a dado blade on it though.

Suggestion by randall_nd
Yes, the saw should have come with a dado plate for around the blade.

Suggestion by roger
Yes you can use a dado blade with it. Assuming that the dado blade has the same size arbor.

I have done many half lap joints. I find it easier to just make several cuts with the regular blade.
Set up your fence to the maximum width of the lap joint. Set your blade to the height of your half lap — half the thickness of your board. Use your push guide to make a kerf in the board. Move the board a small amount away (less that the thickness of your blade) from the fence and make another cut — keep going ’til you get all the wood under your half lap joint sawed out. I usually move the board in and out over the saw blade after i make the cuts to clean it up — but that can be dangerous so be careful if you do that.

Can you put a dado blade in most table saws?
I’m shopping online for an inexpensive table saw. Some of them say, “dado capacity 1/2 inch.” Others don’t mention a dado blade, but they usually say something like, “arbor size 5/8 inch.” If it has an arbor (blade opening?) size listed, does that mean that I will be able to put a dado blade in it?

Suggestion by %%%696969
Yes.
you should make a 1/4 plywood thingy that fits in place of the meatel one that you remoove to change the blade

Suggestion by countryboy
Yes, as long as the blade opening is wide enough and the shaft is long enough it will work. Mine has a removable hole plate and long shaft.

Suggestion by Jivo
Yes you can. The arbor is the spindle that the blade or dado blade mount on to. If the saw you buy has a 5/8 arbor, make sure the dado blade will fit.

Suggestion by split dog
Safely?
If saw s/ accepts 1/2′ dado , it should have provision for a table insert which has a slot for the wider dado .
Diameter & arbor size do count.
The arbor size is the diameter of the shaft the sawblade mounts to.
Have both & would not use ( anymore) without proper table insert that allows for proper blade exposure.
Check the saw mfr for accessories.
Dado work is a common use of table saws & should be OK

Table Saws?
I want to purchase a table-type saw in order to make small wood objects with, BUT it also allow me to cut wood that would at least be 3-4 inches deep. Would anyone recommend a particular type of saw that would give me precision cuts?

I have heard of electric Miter saws by Hitachi, for example.

Are there any other kinds that would do a similar job. Money is a concern, as I would like to keep it under $ 200.

Thanks!

You get what you pay for. Under $ 200, you’ll get a cheap flimsy thing. If you really can’t spend more, try a pawn shop.

Suggestion by bigg_dogg44
ok, a table saw is use mostly to rip wood…..miter saw is used to cut off length and make angles…..if ur looking to just cut length and angles the miter box is what want…..

now, the best made to me is the dewalt.$ 320.00…..compound miter..if u dont need to use the compound u can get one for about $ 190.00 at lowes…..look for sales……

The best saw for cutting straight and to the currect size would be a stationary table saw. Yes you could use a circular saw if you had to which would be my second choice for straight lines. The jigsaw it you had to make a lot of turns in your cuts. There are a couple projects that come up in a google search of toy box projects. You could modify one to suit yoru needs. You’d also like rounded edges that you get from a router.

The box I made I used the tablesaw, router & jigsaw.

Suggestion by dokon@sbcglobal.net
Probably the best in your case would be a circular saw and an edge guide. Skil and Ryobi make good saws that can be had fairly inexpensively (less than $ 50.00). Actually, I just finished a toybox for my grandkids. If you would like a copy of the drawing, email me, and I’ll gladly send it to you.

Genesis 950 Concentrate might work for you. It is designed to use water as a key component to actually get into the stain and break it down. The origin of the product is from printing industries – so it is specifically designed to remove ink, which has the say basic structure as nail polish. I have used it on paint in carpet and it took it out with no problem. I have used it on wood for stains ans marks, and it does not harm, discolor or streak the wood. I say this is your best bet, and if for some reason it doesn’t work, it has tons of other uses.

The nice thing about this product is that it is an All Purpose Cleaner. I bought it at a repair shop to remove grease and tar from my garage floor. I also use it in a rug doctor twice a year to clean the carpets in my house. I used it to remove the stains from an ENTIRE bottle of A1 Steak sauce in white carpet. And, it comes in very handy when I need help cleaning up from pet messes. I have also used it on microfiber furniture. And I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. So it has tackled urine, vomit and lick mark stains from carpet, furniture and linoleum.

The stuff is amazing. I order it online now regularly at www.amerikalstore.com

Some questions about wood working out of my garage?
What do you think would be my best bet for dust collection and air filtration? Also what kind of equipment do you think would be essential. Now this is more for recreational purposes not professional wood working. Now I have a table saw, miter saw, radial arm saw, routers/ router table and all kinds of hand tools. I already know I will need. Drill press band saw jointed and a planner, did I miss anything important?

Suggestion by old man on the hill
a lathe has always been one of my favorite wood working tools

Suggestion by Jim W
Money to buy the tools, sander, hearing protection, sturdy work bench. American woodworker has plans for a very interesting work bench search for “Tom’s torsion box” at their web page. A new power panel in the garage, a single 20 amp circuit will not do what you intend. As to a dust collector a lot of that is your choice.

Suggestion by Danny
For dust management, a dedicated vacuum system, with a pick-up tube near the major points of use.
Wall mounted units work pretty well without using floor space. For fumes, check out a “squirrel cage” exhaust fan.
Your tools are already gettin’ good. If not already there, consider a bench top sander (belt and rotary combo), a serious bunch of clamps (pipe, beam, edge, band, etc.), and maybe a little compressor and an ‘air nailer.

Next thing you’ll be wanting a separate building…

How about a band saw….didn’t see that one on your list.

Buying a table saw on a budget?
Dear fellow woodworking enthusiasts, I am using an old shopsmith for a table saw right now, but it’s starting to fall apart, and it’s end is near. I am looking to buy a new table saw, but I am on a budget and could probably only afford something in the $ 400-$ 500 range. I’ll be using it for building small to medium sized projects, using mostly hardwoods. I would like to buy a cabinet saw but they seem way too expensive. Are there benchtop or contractor saws that will work well for cutting hardwoods? Also, the idea of buying a used cabinet saw has passed my mind. I’m just afraid I don’t know what to check for when looking at a used saw, and I could be getting one thats no good. I’m not looking for the worlds best saw, just one that will work well enough to get the job done right.
Thanks for all your advice
-Brian

Pawn shops I’ve dealt with buying used power tools all have allowed me to try it to see how they ran, cut before I bought it. One time I had to buy a new blade for it to see it actually cut, but it lasted me till I sold it 7 years later. If they don’t let you try it move on. I usually bought a replacement so I’m used to how fast it should make the cut through the material I bring to test it with. If if isn’t really good move on.

Suggestion by Jim S
Check out Craig’s List online. There is an entire section devoted to tool sales. A table saw with a cabinet or finish blade can do what you want. As the other guy said, try before you buy. The saw should start without noise and run without vibration. A little noise when stopping means the blade brake is working. With the cord disconnected, raise the blade all the way and try to move the blade from side to side. There should be little or no movement. If there is it could mean it’s really worn or bent. Check the guide to be sure you can set it and hold it in any position you want. The important thing is the guide locks down. You can set it accurately by measuring from the blade to the guide at the front and the back of the blade. When you find what you’re looking for buy the best blades you can afford and take care of them.

Suggestion by Dan the brick man
i bought rigids model similar to this one. i have a small shop and need to roll it out of the way now and then…if the saw is set up right you will get clean accurate cuts…

harbor freight tools have quality tools cheap. for $ 1200 I could buy every tool I need there, if only i have the space for them. (bandsaw, table saw, drill press, 20 ton press, paint gun, welder, lathe, angle grinder, belt sander/bench grinder combo – 10 tools for $ 1200. i’d like to see any other store beat that.)

radialarm saw table and fence placement??
i recently purchaced a used radial saw (craftsman 10″ electronic older model). it does needs a new table and fence. i have experience with other type saws (table, miter)but have never used a radial, and don’t understand the need for so many different pieces for the table, or the correct placement of the fence (from front of table. will probably only use this saw for cross cutting or miters on wider boards that my miter saw can’t handle. thanks for any help!

Suggestion by Ari’s Man
You want a good solid table. I would use 3/4″ or thicker mdf. For the fence, especially if you are going to use it for cross-cuts and miters, you want to make sure it’s exactly perpendicular to the blade (for straight cuts). As long as the front of the table is perpendicular to the blade, you can measure back to set the fence in position. The fence will also get chewed up with use, so you’ll want to be able to replace it easily.

You can probably get (if you don’t already have it) the manual for the saw by contacting Sears.

How do you install a table saw blade (IE which direction should the fins be facing on the blade)?

How do you install a table saw blade (IE which direction should the fins be facing on the blade)?

Suggestion by BrownShirt
They should be facing towards you.

Suggestion by dandelion24054
They should be arcing toward you when you are standing where you would be pushing material into the saw.

Suggestion by oil field trash
The fins (teeth) need to be facing you as you stand at the front of the table. The front is usually where the elevation handwheel is located as well as the start stop switch.

Suggestion by freedomhammer
Fins?? I don’t think you should be messing with a table saw. But in any case, as you face the table saw from the front, the top of the blade should be rotating towards you and the ‘fins’ (these are called “teeth” in sawspeak) should be pointing towards you so that as you feed a piece of wood into the blade the teeth tend to pull it down tightly towards the table. Use a blade guard and a push stick otherwise I have the feeling the fins will slice off your finners.

I have a Jet Contractor Table Saw and the blade is out of alignment with the fence. How can I adjust?
I was tilting the blade of my Jet Model 708302 contractor type table saw when the wheel became difficult to turn and then popped. Now, the blade is about 1/4″ closer to the fence on the far side than the rear side. It has been so finely tuned, I don’t want to just start turning bolts. Anyone know how to properly adjust?

Suggestion by Answer w/o sugar coating
have to make the adjustments with the blade straight up and down. Then turn bolts..
