Any ideas on what other brand of metal blades for dremel multimax?
I have a dremel multimax mm40, I am looking for a metal cutting blade. I like dremel blades but they dont have a blade that can cut through stronger steel. They just say non-ferous metals. I sometimes cut through nails. which are made of steel, and considered ferous matals. I was thinking of getting the “Versa-Tool DB3B 1-3/8-Inch Bi-Metal Universal Oscillating Saw Blade For Dremel Multi-Max” any ideas or any other company that makes a blade attachment that will work and actually last.

Does anyone know the first table saw made with a riving knife?
Or a table saw made with a riving knife before 1979?
Or an American made table saw that came equipped with a riving knife manufactured before 1979?

Suggestion by david
All I know is that the Europeans had it first and as of 2009 all new table saws in the US must have it.

Suggestion by Rob G
I am not quite sure which one did it first, but it would be Delta, with the unisaw, or Porter cable

I want to cut out wooden letters from a 1/2inch to 1 inch thick peice of wood, what saw do I use?

I want to cut out wooden letters from a 1/2inch to 1 inch thick peice of wood, what saw do I use?
I would like to cut out wooden letters for my daughter’s name to put on her wall instead of paying money for the precut ones. Would I be better off using a scroll saw or a jigsaw? I don’t have a workshop so I’m also trying to keep that in mind. I think I will be using wood that is between 1/2 inch and 1 inch in thickness. Thank you

Suggestion by launrider
Use a jig saw.
Pre drill your holes so the blade will fit into the wood and saw from there.
Good luck!

Suggestion by leonard s
a jigsaw if this a one time thing a scroll saw if this is going to an ongoing thing. A good jig saw will cost as much as a cheap scroll saw. and a go jig saw is more versatile(and you will use it more)

Suggestion by paul h
A scrolling jig saw is the best of both though more expensive than a standard jig saw. A scrolling jig saw has the ability to rotate the blade in very tight cuts….perfect for letters and other intricate cuts.

Suggestion by fidel410
You would have more control with a scroll saw. A jig saw may be more cumbersome to control. I recommend a jig saw in cutting out sinks from counter tops, or large curves. Also jig saws are usually handheld, which means the piece that you’re cutting needs to remain stationary. With a scroll saw you are able to manipulate the piece of wood with greater accuracy. The two scroll saws I’m familiar with, the Ryobi and Dremel, can sit on a table.

Why are we only getting 20-30 minutes of cutting time out of new chain saw blades?

Why are we only getting 20-30 minutes of cutting time out of new chain saw blades?
We’ve been using Oregon brand blades on our Poulon 260 Pro chain saw and the blade will be dull and stretched within a half hour of my husband stepping out the door with it. What could be causing this? Is there a likely culprit within the chain saw itself?

Suggestion by frozen
Chain life depends on many factors including the type of wood that you are cutting. A hardwood will dull a chain faster. It is normal for a new chain to stretch and the bar must be adjusted to compensate. Other factors are the amount of chain oil being used and the type of chain oil.

Suggestion by William B
ya i would switch brands, , and use a 30 wt oil on the bar oil,
some chains are sharpened too thin, so i use a file sharpener on mine before i use a new one,

Suggestion by Jeffrey J
Most pro tree guys suggest using only bar-oil to lube the chain, but i use 50 sae (doesn’t sling off as badly as 30 or multi grades)).

Chain life will be shortened by cutting dried/cured wood (as compared to a tree with has been recently felled). Just hitting the ground once will toast a blade. Furthermore cutting through mud/dirt stuck to the logs will dull it quickly.

hope this helps . . . .

Suggestion by evilindependent
Purchase a sharpener and make sure you have plenty of chain oil. Stretching is common with a new chain.

Is there an age restriction for buying saw blades?
i was working with a scroll saw and the blade broke (my fault).
and i was wondering if you have to be 18 or over to buy blades from home depot.

Suggestion by HyperDog
You must be 21!

J/K… you should be able to buy blades – I have never heard of such a restriction.

Makes Clean, Chip-Free Cuts in Delicate Finish Work
Achieving premium results when creating finish crosscuts in ultra-fine materials is all about clean, accurate cuts. The Freud D1080X makes this process easy, fast, and precise. To save you time, most cuts made by this blade require little to no sanding.

Trim carpenters, fine cabinetmakers, and avid do-it-yourselfers will want to keep this blade on hand for those special jobs that call for making ultra-fine finish crosscuts in delicate pieces. Appropriate application materials include oak, pine, melamine, veneer plywood, and delicate molding.

Produces Smooth, Quiet Cuts with Laser-Cut Kerf
The Freud D1080X’s clean-cutting design means that you can enjoy the comfort of smooth performance. The thin 0.98-inch kerf between the blade’s 80 Hi-ATB (alternate-top bevel) teeth is laser cut to provide ease of feed, so you have more control over the blade’s position. This helps maximize both the accuracy of the cut and the efficiency of your work, so you enjoy a job well done and the ability to complete more tasks in less time.

An added bonus, the blade’s laser-cut stabilizer vents reduce noise and vibration during operation, keeping your work environment more relaxed and your hands more in control. This feature also reduces friction and warping, helping to extend the blade’s cutting life.

Features Shock-Resistant Carbide for Long-Lasting Precision
So you can count on it over the long term, the Freud D1080X is designed for durability. The blade’s hardy teeth are protected by Freud’s exclusive shock-resistant TiCo Hi-Density Carbide formula, which helps fight wear and tear and maintains blade sharpness up to four times longer than standard carbide. And protecting the blade is Perma-Shield Non-Stick Coating that provides resistance to heat and corrosion.

Fits Miter and Table Saws
The Freud D1080X is a great addition to your workshop because it’s designed with the versatility to fit a variety of table and miter saws, including sliding miter saws.

This product is covered by Freud’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

hand saw to cut wood?
is there a size of saw that’s like, knife-sized that can cut wood. Knives don’t seem to work good enough but i need something that size cuz it’s really small what i’m cutting.

i was wondering there was a saw that existed that was that size and what would it be called so i can get one.

Suggestion by tennesseeglen
Try something like MXZ pocket saw or any small saw available at the bix boxes. The MXZ is a six inch saw, they do not get much smaller than this one.

x acto makes a razor saw blade for $ 3.99. XAC235 is the part #.
if you want to go the powered route then try the dremel tool

go to lee valley site and check under woodworking tools …it should give you an idea what to buy..

They make fold-up saws for camping that are very good though they are for coarse cuts, not fine cuts. I bought mine in the camping section at some big box store.
